Boxer Mike Tyson denied entry into Chile because of 'negative records'
SANTIAGO, Chile – Chilean authorities stopped former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson from entering the country after flying in Thursday morning.
The ex-champ, who 20 years ago bit off a piece of former part-time Houston resident Evander Holyfield’s ear in a Las Vegas boxing ring, was no match for the Policia de Investigaciones of Chile.
The organization informed him that he was prohibited from entering the country due to entry requirements within their legal system because of his "negative records," according to a report by Chilean newspaper La Tercera.
Tyson was convicted and sent to prison in Indiana for rape in 1992.
Video of the incident captured by another Chilean media outlet called Eldeportivo shows Tyson casually walking with Chilean officials through Benitez International Airport in Santiago.
Tyson was scheduled to take part in an awards show for a local cable channel, according to reports.
