Oakland Athletics to play free game in 2018 Team marking 50 years since first Coliseum game No description found
The Oakland Athletics will play a game for free next season to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the team playing its first game at Oakland Coliseum.
The April 17 home game against the Chicago White Sox will have free admission for all fans, with more details coming in early 2018.
The team believes that the promotion is one of the first completely free standalone games in MLB history.
The Athletics made the announcement Tuesday, the same day MLB unveiled its 2018 schedule.
For the first time in 50 years, all MLB teams will begin play on the same day -- March 29. That marks the earliest starting date in the sport's history, excluding international openers.
