THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Matt Hanson and Jodie Robertson claimed titles Saturday at the 2017 Memorial Herman Ironman North American Championship Texas triathlon.
Organizers said Hanson smashed his own course record, finishing in 07:52:44, as Robertson claimed the women's title with a time of 08:56:32.

Hanson and Robertson both received automatic bids to this year's Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, organizers said.

This year's triathlon saw more than 2,600 athletes representing 51 countries and 47 states start the race, organizers said. Competitors ranged in age from 18 to 80 years old.
Organizers said the event offered a total professional prize purse of $150,000 and 75 coveted age group qualifying slots to the 2017 Ironman World Championship, which is scheduled to take place Oct. 14 in Kailua Kona, Hawaii.
