HOUSTON – I had forgotten Matt Schaub is a Falcon. It's his second tour with Atlanta and returning to Houston for a Super Bowl is quite ironic. He may not have to do anything to win a ring.
The other quarterback we ran out of town already has a ring. David Carr got one with the Giants and certainly didn't do anything as Eli's groomsman. If Schaub does get a ring there is another irony. Both Schaub and Carr would have one at the expense of the Patriots. Speaking of the Pats, I got on an elevator yesterday and a guy stepped in wearing a New England cap, T-shirt and shorts. I didn't interact with him. I think it's just too easy to be a fan of a team that seems to win all the time.

I suppose I have numerous Patriots' fans stories, but one sticks out. I was working for a Houston FM station and was asked to ride herd in the company suite for a Texans game. I could answer questions the guests might have and mix it up with our listeners. The game did not involve the Pats, but six of the guests were winners of some contest and they all showed up wearing New England gear. Again, the Patriots weren't playing. We offered them lunch and an open bar. Big mistake. The bar was drained before the anthem was sung.
When the "guests" realized the booze was gone they went to a suite next to us and took their bottles of expensive liquor. That was the swizzle stick that broke the free ride. Our promotions lady was tough. Trish, you know who you are. She gave them what-for in a loud voice, called the cops, and our contest winners never saw the kick off. I wonder if they stayed loyal listeners? I am sure they are still loyal to the Pats and that is one reason I hope the Falcons run them out of building.
