Texans playoff chances heading into Week 16
Texans could clinch playoff spot on Saturday
HOUSTON – There are a number of things to watch for this holiday weekend as the Houston Texans try to claim their second playoff berth in as many years.
The Texans host the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night at NRG Stadium and before kickoff they will know if the opportunity is there to clinch the AFC South division title.
If the Titans, who play at noon on Saturday at Jacksonville and their new interim coach Doug Marrone, lose their game, then the Texans would clinch the division with a win over Cincinnati.
If that happens, and pending some other results this weekend and next, the Texans could possibly still claim the third seed as the division winner with the third best record.
Some other playoff clinching notes to be aware of:
- The only way Texans (9-7) can be a wild card if is Miami loses both of their remaining games (at Buffalo & vs Patriots). (and even then, they are a number of tiebreakers they’d have to win, most of which they would.)
- If Texans finish 10-6 they win the division.
- If Texans beat Titans in week 17 - no matter what else happens - they win the division.
- If the Texans lose on Saturday, then Houston is eliminated from the wild card race. That would mean Texans can only make playoffs as division champ - which they would be by beating Titans in week 17.
Programming Note: With the Texans game on Saturday, KPRC 2's 'Texans Game Day' will air at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, instead of Sunday morning.
