Daily Craig: The mustaches are in studio

No description found

As most fans know by now, Jeff Fisher was fired by the Rams yesterday.

Jeff was my hero and still is. He played at USC and for the Bears at  5 feet eleven,  185 lbs. A normal sized human in a not remotely human league. Jeff and I conducted TV business for 2 years here in Houston. Jeff got the job for the final 6 games of the 1994 season when Bud fired Jack Pardee. Bud was fond of firing popular coaches. The day Jeff got the job I WAS TIPPED OFF TO THE DEAL and broke into programming to announce "The Oilers are replacing Pardee with JEFF FULLER". I meant Fisher, but for some reason I had a defensive back of the 49ers getting the job. OK, I made a mistake.

The next 2 seasons I was host of the JEFF FISHER SHOW on ch. 2. It is still the best format for any coaches show I have been on or viewed from afar. Live studio audience, roundtable with radio and newspaper guys including Mickey Herskowitz. We had interviews, highlights, you name it. Well, we had everything but a BIG AUDIENCE. The Oilers and Bud were demanding a new stadium and the threat to move hung heavy on the ratings. The audience now hated the Oilers and the new coache's show.

Jeff and I WORKED ONE MORE SEASON in Houston and then the Tennessee Oilers popped into the NF-HELL. Jeff was 18-22 as an Oilers head coach. He had back to back 13-3 records with Tennessee including a near trip to a SUPERBOWL. I left a message for him in 1999 wishing him success. I told the secretary to GIVE IT TO JEFF FULLER.  Years later Jeff said he got a laugh out of that. We accomplished something.
