HOUSTON – The Houston Texans have trimmed their roster to the league-mandated 53-man limit on Saturday.

Among the roster moves they made include removing J.J. Watt from the physically unable to perform list and placing him on the active roster.

That means Watt is eligible to play in the season opener against the Bears if he is healthy enough following offseason back surgery.

The Texans did the same thing with left tackle Duane Brown who tore his quad in the final regular season game in January and then had surgery.

Among the players let go include running back Akeem Hunt and veteran wide receiver Cecil Shorts III. The Texans also elected to keep three quarterbacks, holding onto both Tom Savage and Brandon Weeden as backups to Brock Osweiler.
