Vince Young teaches Houston youth about hard work, football

HOUSTON – Houston's youth got to learn firsthand from former Longhorns national football champ Vince Young Sunday. 

He instructed kids on the importance of hard work on and off the field, and to always have a plan B because football doesn't last forever.

"I asked kids what they learned and (they) said when football is over with, I gotta have a plan B," Young said about his camp. "I was happy to see the guys responding after the camp was over that they (were) really paying attention."

Young said he attended camps just like these growing up and had the privilege of learning from the late Steve McNair. It was then he realized he could positively impact the community by combining his love of football and charity.

"I wanna be just like that. I want to give back to the community," Young said about his time in McNair's camp as a student athlete. "I'm so in love with what I do now; talking about education and making sure kids and young ladies know that it's not all about sports. Make sure you graduate. Make sure you get an education."

Young expressed his appreciation for his community and enjoys being able to talk with kids on a regular basis. He says he's at peace with his role as a mentor and loves to see people succeed in life.
