HOUSTON – For the third time this season, the American League pitcher of the month award went to Astros pitcher Dallas Keuchel. He was named AL pitcher of the month for August after claiming the award in April and May.
Keuchel earned a win in four of his six starts in August and turned in a 1.94 ERA. That was good for fifth-best in the league. Two of his teammates, Scott Feldman and Collin McHugh, actually turned in even better ERAs, with Feldman at 1.33 and McHugh at 1.89 for August.
It's the first time in Astros history a pitcher has won the award more than two times in a single season.
For the season, Keuchel is 16-6 with a 2.24 ERA and a whip of 1.00. The 16 wins lead the league, while his ERA ranks second only to Oakland's Sonny Gray (2.13).
Keuchel is scheduled to pitch next Sunday against Minnesota.
