Worker crushed to death at Brazoria County oil field

ALVIN, Texas – A worker was killed Tuesday when a piece of equipment fell at an oil field in Brazoria County.

The incident was reported about 8:30 a.m. at Denbury Resources near the intersection of Highway 35 and County Road 129.

According to Brazoria County deputies, a snatch block which weighs several thousand pounds fell and crushed a Pryor Packers Inc. well service technician.

Antonio "Tony" Perez, 43, was performing well service on a rig when the snatch block, a type of pulley with a hook attached, that weighs around 3,000 pounds fell.

Perez, of El Campo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said that a crane was being brought in to lift the equipment off the worker.

The cause of the snatch block fall is under investigation.
