Boyfriend charged after woman shot to death in SE Houston apartments, police say

HOUSTON – A woman was shot to death shortly before noon Saturday in southeast Houston, police said.

Police said the victim's fiance, Joseph Lewis, 43, was charged with murder for the death of 41-year-old Leticia Campbell Sowell.

The shooting was reported at 11:57 a.m. in the 7000 block of Village Way.

Police said Sowell's mother came to pick up her two children because the couple were arguing. Neighbors told police that shortly after, they heard several gunshots, officials said.

Police said they found Sowell lying at the entranceway of her apartment. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A witness told police the witness saw Lewis leave in Sowell's vehicle, officials said. Police were able to locate him and take him into custody without incident.
