WASHINGTON – The White House was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon while the Secret Service investigated a suspicious package.
Secret Service personnel responded to reports of the package in the area of Penn Avenue and Lafayette Park. Officials later said the suspicious package was deemed safe.

"Certain security measures will remain in place until the appropriate time for them to be lifted," Secret Service staff assistant Shawn Holtzclaw said.
Officials said pedestrian and vehicular traffic was impacted.
The lockdown was placed hours after the Houston Astros were recognized by President Trump for their World Series championship.
