Son charged in stabbing death of mother in Spring, deputies say

HOUSTON – A man was charged with stabbing his mother to death in a Spring home, Harris County deputies said.

The incident was reported at 6:10 a.m. Saturday during a welfare check in the 22000 block of Red Leo Lane.

Harris County Precinct 4 constable deputies responded to a caller that reported Cindy Therwhanger told them her son, Tyler Therwhanger, was at the house and "acting suspicious and irate," deputies said.

The caller told deputies that Cindy screamed and the phone disconnected.

Upon arrival, deputies said they stopped Tyler as he was attempting to leave in his mother's vehicle in bloody clothes.

Deputies said they found Cindy stabbed to death inside the home.

Investigators said Tyler asked his mother for her car keys to leave the house, but when she refused, he grabbed a knife and stabbed her to death. Investigators said Tyler planned to empty her bank account and use the money at a strip club.

Tyler is charged with capital murder and being held in the Harris County Jail.

Anyone with information about Cindy's death is asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide unit at 713-274-9100.
