Police said the statue, which was taken from the Grand Bohemian Gallery on King Street, was valued at $4,200.
While officers were investigating the theft, a man stopped by the gallery and said, “If you are looking for a horse statue, the guy you were with a few minutes ago has it in his suitcase.”
Officers checked the area and found Talach with a black suitcase, police said.
Talach admitted during questioning that he had taken the statue earlier in the day, police said.
