One dead after car hits tree, splits in half

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Harris County Precinct 4 deputies were investigating a deadly car accident Monday morning. 

Authorities say one person died after the driver lost control and slammed into a tree at a high rate of speed.

The accident happened in the 9400 block of Cypresswood Drive near Champions in northwest Harris County. The car split in half when it hit the tree. There was no one else in the car at the time of the accident. 

Cypresswood Drive was shut down while crews worked to clean up debris, but the road reopened early Monday morning.
