Man arrested after brutal beating, robbery at east Texas gas station

Incident caught on surveillance video

LUFKIN, Texas - A man is behind bars in the Angelina County jail, accused in a brutal beating and robbery at an east Texas gas station.

Surveillance video from Lucky's convenience store in Lufkin shows the victim and his alleged attacker, 21-year-old Andrea Franks-Vanzandt, get into a verbal altercation Saturday.

Seconds later, police said Vanzandt is seen punching and kicking the victim repeatedly, at one point even stomping on the victim's head.

Police said Vanzandt stole $35 from the victim and ran off; he was arrested minutes later at a nearby apartment complex and charged with aggravated robbery.

The victim, who called the incident "life-changing," was hospitalized and later released. He also requested that the surveillance video be released.

The $35 was returned to the victim.
