Body of missing fisherman found in Chocolate Bayou

BRAZORIA COUNTY – Authorities said the body of a missing fisherman was found Monday morning.

The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office said the man, later identified by his family as 27-year-old Carlos Alaniz, of Alvin, went missing Sunday night near FM 2004 in the Chocolate Bayou.

Officials said Alaniz was boating with two other friends when they ran out of gas.

Alaniz got out of the boat to push it to shore when he was swept underwater. The two other boaters tried to rescue Alaniz after he went under, but they could not find him. They called 911 at 6:24 p.m.

Alaniz's body was found around 11:30 a.m. Monday about two miles southeast of FM 2004, according to the sheriff's office.

An autopsy will be performed by the Galveston County Medical Examiner's Office.

The Coast Guard assisted the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office with the search.
