Man arrested months after puppy found locked in trunk in Channelview field, constable says

21-year-old faces animal cruelty charge in case involving a German Shepherd mix rescued by a passerby

CHANNELVIEW, Texas – A Houston man accused of abandoning a puppy in a locked container in Channelview has been arrested after being sought for months, according to the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office.

Deontwon Marquise Perry Jr., 21, is charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Investigators say the case stems from an incident in January, when a passerby found a blue trunk left in a field and heard a puppy whimpering inside.

The dog, an approximately 11-month-old German Shepherd mix later named Buster, was rescued and taken to the Houston SPCA for evaluation and care, officials said.

“This was cruel. This was a crime. There is no excuse,” Constable Alan Rosen said.
