The impacts of Tropical Storm Arthur are being felt across Southeast Texas on Wednesday, with high winds battering coastal communities and emergency crews responding to multiple water rescues in flood-prone areas.
KPRC 2 crews were stationed across the region as conditions deteriorated throughout the day.
In Galveston, KPRC 2 reporter Ricky Munoz caught strong winds and heavy rain moving onshore as bands from the tropical storms pushed across the Upper Texas Coast. Forecasters warned that coastal communities could see some of the stormβs heaviest rainfall totals, along with dangerous travel conditions and localized flooding.
Meanwhile, in Brazoria County, first responders continued rescuing drivers stranded by rising floodwaters. KPRC 2 Cathy Hernandez witnessed multiple water rescues as roads became inundated after hours of heavy rainfall.
Emergency officials have repeatedly urged residents to stay off flooded roadways, reminding drivers that conditions can change quickly during tropical weather events.
A Tropical Storm Watch remains in effect for portions of the Texas coast, including areas from Brazoria County eastward. Forecasters expect the heaviest rainfall to remain concentrated near the coast, where totals of 2 to 6 inches are possible. Inland communities, including much of the Houston metro area, could see scattered downpours and isolated flooding.
Officials are encouraging residents to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rain, and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
KPRC 2 will continue tracking tropical weather and providing updates from across Southeast Texas as conditions evolve.
