Woman accused of trying to steal $52K through fraudulent refunds at Northwest Freeway business

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office are investigating an alleged employee theft scheme after a woman was accused of attempting to issue thousands of dollars in fraudulent refunds to herself from her workplace.

According to law enforcement, deputies responded around 8:08 a.m. on Tuesday to the 27100 block of the Northwest Freeway in reference to a theft investigation. Investigators said they learned April Timberlake allegedly tried to process fraudulent refunds totaling about $52,000.

During the investigation, deputies also discovered Timberlake had an active warrant for violation of bond conditions issued out of Navarro County, the constable’s office said.

Timberlake was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail for the outstanding warrant and was additionally charged with theft, authorities said. Her bond was set at $10,000 out of the 184th District Court.

“Employee theft is a serious breach of trust that can have a significant financial impact on businesses,” Constable Mark Herman said in a statement. “Our deputies thoroughly investigate these cases and will continue to hold individuals accountable when they attempt to unlawfully profit at the expense of their employers.”
