HOUSTON, Texas – The Spring Branch Independent School District Board of Trustees is expected to consider closing Northbrook Middle School during a meeting on Monday night as the district faces declining enrollment and ongoing budget challenges.
District leaders said Spring Branch ISD has lost about 2,000 students over the last several years, contributing to financial strain across the district.
Northbrook Middle School, located near Rosefield Drive and Kemp Forest Drive in northwest Houston, currently has about 450 students enrolled.
According to the district, rising property values, gentrification, and families moving farther into the suburbs in search of more affordable housing have contributed to the decline in enrollment.
The campus also received an “F” accountability rating during the last school year.
If the proposal is approved, students currently zoned to Northbrook Middle School would be rezoned to attend Spring Oaks Middle School, Spring Woods Middle School, or Landrum Middle School.
The board meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Monday.
