Angleton HS football player Gavin Hebert leads efforts to support his team and community

Hebert is the eighteenth recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2026

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

Angleton High School senior Gavin Hebert is the eighteenth recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2026. Angleton High School is part of the Angleton Independent School District.

Hebert made the all-district second team at defensive tackle during his sophomore year playing football at Hightower High School. After moving to Angleton for his junior and senior seasons, he made the all-district lineup again at left tackle.

An injury changed the trajectory of Hebert’s senior football season. Hebert told KPRC 2, “In week 2, I tore the ligaments in my hand so severely that it ended my senior season in September. However, I did not quit on my teammates, and I was there every day and even became an honorary coach, teaching the younger guys how to keep their composure and the older guys how to be an on-the-field leader.” Despite his season-ending injury, Hebert was recognized on the Texas High School Coaches Association’s Academic All-State second team list for the 2025-2026 season.

Inspired by seeing the impact of helpers during the tragic flooding in Texas in July 2025, Hebert began coordinating efforts to provide free meals around Thanksgiving to his neighbors in the Angleton community. He even baked the dessert cakes himself. In his nomination essay for the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship, Hebert said, “I wanted to give back to the community that had just recently adopted me a year earlier.”

Hebert is a member of the National Honor Society. He will attend Southwestern University, where he plans to study Mechanical Engineering. Congratulations, Gavin!
