‘Biggest fight I’ve ever seen’: Students recall chaos at Heights High School

HOUSTON – Students at Heights High School are describing a chaotic and frightening day after multiple fights broke out across campus Tuesday, according to a Houston police source.

Cell phone video on social media shows multiple fights involving groups of students breaking out in different areas of campus.

Students say the violence began around lunchtime and continued into the afternoon — with some describing it as unlike anything they’ve seen before.

“This is by far the biggest fight I’ve ever seen,” said junior Gregory Cruz. “I was not expecting us to reach double digits.”

Students estimated at least two dozen people may have been involved.

“It escalated to a point where police had to come in,” said junior Logan Segall. “There was various fights on campus.”

Students say some people appeared to join in as the situation grew.

“Some people are just joining in the fight just to fight,” Segall said.

A Houston police source tells KPRC 2 the situation involved two groups of students fighting. At some point, one group ran off, and a student was detained.

What sparked the fights is unclear but a spokesperson for Houston Independent School District said dismissal was impacted by police activity off campus.

Students said they were dismissed at around 4:40 p.m.
