HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Jayden Timmons, a senior at Mayde Creek High School, is the thirteenth KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner from the class of 2026. Mayde Creek High School is part of the Katy Independent School District.
Standing out for his role as a leader, Timmons serves on both the Katy ISD Superintendent’s Leadership Circle and the Mayde Creek Principal’s Roundtable. He was class president for three years and founded his school’s Black Student Union. He is also president of the National Beta Honor Society and he hosts Creek Speak TV, a special broadcast for the Mayde Creek High School community.
With a passion for inspiring young people to exercise their rights to vote and speak freely, Timmons is active in the NAACP Youth branch and will serve as an incoming Democratic Precinct Chair. He is working on creating an academy to inspire other young leaders. He also attended Texas Boys State and the Jostens Global Leadership Conference.
While Timmons’ early life brought several heavy obstacles including the loss of close family members and some time in the foster care system, he persevered to become the bright, admired young man KPRC 2’s crew encountered for his scholarship surprise.
Timmons hopes to attend Prairie View A&M University with plans to study business and education. Congratulations, Jayden!
