KATY, Texas – Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office are responding to a scene in the Katy area where a woman was fatally shot on a neighborhood street.
The incident was reported in the 6700 block of Rusty Ridge Lane, according to initial information received around 12:42 p.m. Wednesday.
HCSO confirmed that one woman was dead when they arrived. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez is at the scene.
They said the suspected shooter was a man. He called 911, said he had just shot somebody and hung up. It’s unclear how he may have been related to the victim. He stayed at the scene until deputies arrived.
The location of the shooting is near Duryea Elementary School, a Cy-Fair ISD campus. KPRC 2 contacted the school, which confirmed it is aware of the shooting and followed necessary safety protocols.
Sources indicate that homicide investigators have been called to the scene, suggesting the situation may involve a fatality, though officials have not publicly confirmed whether anyone has died or been injured.
