Police told KPRC 2 News they were called to the 5900 block of Glenmont Drive last week to meet firefighters after a mother found her son unable to stand.

According to investigators, the mother said she regularly drops off her 4-year-old son at a neighbor’s apartment while she goes to work.

When she picked him up that day, he had fallen, appeared sick, was unable to stay conscious, and could not stand on his own.

Court records show the child was hospitalized.

Ramos-Velasquez told police the child consumed more than one gummy inside her apartment but claimed she “didn’t know” they contained THC.

Police contacted Child Protective Services and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which accepted a charge of endangering a child.

The arrest comes just before Texas is set to implement new regulations on smokable hemp products.
