Officer hospitalized after shooting in South Houston

HOUSTON – A police officer has been hospitalized after reports of and officer-invovled shooting in the city of South Houston on Friday morning.

Houston police said around 1 a.m., they were called to the 1400 block of Amarillo Street to assist South Houston Police with an officer-involved shooting.

Although details surrounding the incident are not clear, Houston police said its officers helped form a perimeter around the scene and cleared the freeway so the injured officer could get to the hospital.

The officer who was injured reportedly suffered only minor injuries, and it’s still not clear what led up to the shooting or if anyone else was injured.

Witnesses nearby reported hearing a rapid burst of gunfire and then saw police officers.

South Houston Police are leading the investigation.
