Pasadena residents may see bright flame, smoke and hear ‘rumbling noise’ at chemical plant. Here’s why

PASADENA, Texas – Pasadena residents may have noticed a bright flame, smoke or a “rumbling noise” coming from a Bayport-area chemical plant Wednesday afternoon, according to LyondellBasell.

The LyondellBasell Bayport Polymers site, located at 12001 Bay Area Blvd., is experiencing flaring at the facility.

Officials said the flaring is a safety and environmental control measure used to manage and combust process materials.

If residents notice flaring, officials said there is no need to take any action.

Officials added they are actively working to stop the flaring as quickly and safely as possible.
