The giveaway took place during the “Women Making History” event, hosted in partnership with GirlBoss and Edward Pollard. The event honored women across the city for their resilience, achievements, and contributions to their communities.
Johnson later shared the moment on Instagram, writing:“I was blown away by the women and their stories. Being raised by a strong woman inspired me to provide $1,000 to each honoree as well as sponsor them to be my VIP guests at our Houston show for Set It Off March 29th.”
In addition to the financial gift, each honoree was invited to attend the Houston performance of Set It Off: Live as a VIP guest.
Johnson is known for bringing popular stories to the stage and helping elevate urban theatre into the mainstream. His past productions include Redemption of a Dogg featuring Snoop Dogg, New Jack City Live, and Married But Single. He is also a recipient of the NAACP Trailblazer Award.
Organizers say the recognition, and the unexpected financial support, highlights the impact of investing in women entrepreneurs and celebrating their contributions across Houston.
