Kuykendahl Road shut down in N. Harris County after explosion leads to fire

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Kuykendahl Road is shut down in both directions at Hufsmith-Kuykendahl Road in north Harris County after a fire broke out following some sort of explosion.

The Harris County Pct. 4 Constable’s Office said they are assisting the Spring Fire Department, who were called out after reports of a loud explosion.

The Spring Fire Department said the fire started out small, but spread and ignited containers of fireworks. The Klein Fire Department said originally, the fire started in a recreational vehicle and the owner had attempted to put the fire out himself.

The fire quickly spread to nearby woods and jumped the railroad tracks.

Dozens of firefighters are currently at the scene. No houses have been affected.

No injuries have been reported, but authorities ask the public to avoid the area or expect delays as crews respond to the fire.
