MOCA HTX, which stands for Men of Color Achieving, recently hosted a “Women of Color Brunch,” bringing together a diverse group of influential women described as trailblazers and powerhouses in the community.
The event focused on honoring their achievements while creating space for connection and networking.
Owner Travis Bryant said the idea behind the brunch was to shine a light on women making an impact but who don’t always receive the recognition they deserve.
“The idea for the Women of Color Achieving brunch was to highlight key young ladies in the community who are doing big things,” Bryant said. “MOCA, as a brand, is all about highlighting people of color and their achievements, and we always want to have a safe space where these individuals can come in, network, have a good time, and create connections throughout the community.”
Bryant said he feels a responsibility to use the lounge’s platform to promote positive stories, especially at a time when Black history and culture often feel under attack.
“There’s so much negativity online. There’s so much being highlighted about negative behavior and things going wrong in the world,” he said. “We also have to put just as much emphasis on things that are going right and things that are good. I feel it’s very important to use this platform to highlight the positive things happening in the community.”
He also credited the community for helping the business succeed.
“We are approaching two years in business, and I would like to say that we would not be in existence without the support of the community,” Bryant said. “We really, really want to thank everyone.”
