Houston father accused of shooting son during argument over vehicle keys, police say

HOUSTON – A man is in critical condition after being shot by his father during an argument over vehicle keys Wednesday morning.

Officers with the Houston Police Department responded to a shooting call around 1:19 a.m. at a residence in the 300 block of Victoria. When they arrived, they found a man believed to be in his mid-30s suffering from two to three gunshot wounds to the upper chest.

The man, who lives at home with his parents, was transported to a nearby hospital. Police say he is currently listed in stable but critical condition.

Investigators say the shooting happened after an argument between the father and son over vehicle keys escalated into a physical altercation.

According to police, the victim’s mother attempted to intervene during the dispute. The struggle moved between the kitchen and living room, and at some point, all three individuals fell to the floor, Lt. Willkens said.

During the altercation, several rounds were fired from a pistol, striking the son.

Officers recovered multiple pistols at the scene, and investigators believe the father fired the weapon that hit his son.

The case has been referred to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether any charges will be filed.

The investigation remains ongoing.
