CLEVELAND, Texas – Students and staff will not be in class on Monday after Tarkington ISD reported severe power surges on Friday. District officials are working to assess the problem.
The school district said two major power surges on Friday shut off power to their middle school campus, which serves as the district’s internet hub. When they lost power, it severed phone lines and internet services across the district.

“Due to the age of the building and equipment, certain components must be replaced before power can be restored. At this time, we do not have an estimated timeframe for restoration,” the district said on Saturday.
Later that evening, the district made the call to cancel school on Monday, March 2, as service crews continue repairs.
