HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

Sonny Beltran, a senior at Sweeny High School, is our eighth KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner from the class of 2026. Sweeny High School is part of the Sweeny Independent School District.

Beltran is active in National Honor Society. Through the organization, he has volunteered for numerous causes like blood drives, food drives and raising money to provide free mammograms for women in need. He has also volunteered with veterans’ causes through Interact and the National Rotary Club, including Wreaths Across the World where students laid wreaths honoring veterans buried at Houston National Cemetery.

In honor of his late grandfather, who was the primary caretaker for Beltran and his brother, this remarkable student has plans to study Emergency Medical Services on a track to become a paramedic. He is a member of Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA)/Future Health Professionals.

Congratulations, Sonny! Your heart for service is commendable and we know it will take you far in your journey toward becoming a first responder.
