Go Texan Day returns to Houston on Friday, Feb. 27, bringing a full day of Rodeo-themed celebrations, including the Rodeo Roundup downtown, Trail Ride arrivals at Memorial Park and the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.
What’s happening on Go Texan Day
Festivities begin downtown with Rodeo Roundup, held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hermann Square. The free event features live music, a Go Texan Day proclamation, photo opportunities with a Texas Longhorn steer and complimentary chopped barbecue sandwiches provided by the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Committee.
Later in the day, spectators can watch Trail Rides arrive at Memorial Park, a long-standing Rodeo tradition that brings riders from across Texas into Houston ahead of opening day.
The celebration continues into the evening at the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, where teams compete and Rodeo season officially kicks into high gear.
Go Texan Day Contest
Schools, businesses and organizations can also take part in the annual Go Texan Day Contest. Entries require a 60-second or shorter video highlighting Go Texan Day activities and must be uploaded publicly to YouTube.
Categories include schools, nonprofits, small businesses and large businesses, along with a special Go Texan Day Spirit Award. Public voting begins in early March, with winners announced March 11.
