Houston ISD is introducing Future 2 schools, a new Pre-K through 8 model focused on critical thinking, hands-on learning, and career readiness starting in the 2026–27 school year.
Beginning in the 2026–27 school year, C. Martinez Elementary and Greg Elementary will transition into Pre-K through 8 campuses using a new instructional model designed to prepare students for future careers and real-world problem solving.

District leaders say the goal of Future 2 is to move instruction beyond what students learn and focus more on how they think.
The model blends strong core academics with immersive, hands-on learning experiences that help students build skills such as problem solving, collaboration, leadership, and ethical decision making. Students will take part in coursework, workshops, and applied learning experiences that include AI literacy, design thinking, music, sports, and other enrichment opportunities.
HISD leaders say artificial intelligence will be integrated into nearly every career field, particularly high-demand and high-wage jobs. By introducing concepts like prompt engineering and critical questioning early, the district aims to prepare students to use AI as a tool while remaining active decision makers.
Families across HISD will be able to apply to Future 2 schools. There are no academic requirements for enrollment.
