HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – The Lone Star College System is launching a new initiative aimed at boosting state contracting opportunities for businesses owned by service-disabled veterans.

The Veteran Heroes United in Business, or VetHUB, program is a statewide effort designed to connect more veteran-owned small businesses with public contracts while expanding the college system’s pool of qualified vendors.

“Through this program, Lone Star College System is expanding access to qualified, certified vendors while supporting economic growth for veteran entrepreneurs across Texas,” said Rick Reeves, LSCS associate vice chancellor of supply management. “By engaging service-disabled veteran-owned businesses, we foster competition, increase access to high-quality vendors and reinforce our commitment to doing business in a way that is transparent and impactful for our students and communities.”

The program offers a free certification process for Texas businesses that are at least 51% owned, managed and operated by one or more service-disabled veterans. Once certified, those businesses can pursue state-level contracts through VetHUB.

Information on how to participate and complete the certification is available through the Texas Comptroller’s Office.

Lone Star College System plans to work with chambers of commerce, procurement networks and veteran organizations to help prepare qualifying businesses to compete for contracts.

“Lone Star College System provides meaningful resources to our veteran students and employees. The VetHUB initiative will help us better support the veteran community beyond our campuses,” said retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. David J. Yebra, LSCS chief veterans officer.

Current and prospective vendors interested in doing business with Lone Star College System are invited to a workshop April 16 at the LSC-System Office in The Woodlands, inside the Lone Star Community Building, Star Ballroom II.
