The 39-year-old Dominica immigrant was charged after the child reported the crime to a trusted adult.
An investigation by both the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and the Hillsborough County, Florida Sheriff’s Office revealed Sanderson began abusing the victim in 2022 in Florida. The abuse continued into 2023 in the Katy and Richmond area of Fort Bend County.
During the investigation, Sanderson was interviewed by investigators with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office and admitted to the sexual abuse in both jurisdictions. Sanderson is expected to face criminal charges in Florida for the criminal conduct he perpetrated in that state.
“Children inherently trust the adults in their lives to protect them from harm. Jason Sanderson violated and weaponized that trust. It is my hope that the sentence gives strength and power to this family and the young child.”
“It’s a good day when we can get a significant sentence without having to expose the child survivor to the experience of a trial,” said Middleton. “The defendant will be 65 years old when his sentence expires, and our neighborhoods will be free of this threat for the next 25 years,” said Prosecutor Elizabeth Howard.
Continuous sexual abuse of a young child is a first-degree felony punishable by 25 to 99 years, or life, in prison, without the possibility of parole.
The sentence will be served day-for-day by Texas law.
