Judge orders Porter mother accused of shooting her children from speaking to press

ANGLETON, Texas – The Porter mother accused of shooting her four children last October and killing two of them, was ordered by Brazoria County District Court Judge Jessica Pulcher to stop speaking to press as of Tuesday afternoon.

Oninda Romelus, 31, is facing charges of capital murder and aggravated assault.

“This is to protect your interest,” Judge Pulcher told Romelus in court on Tuesday.

KPRC 2 was the only media outlet inside the courtroom.

Attorneys for Romelus, Cary Faden and Mike Diaz, proposed the protective and restrictive order after another media outlet interviewed Romelus from jail.

“I was not notified,” Faden said in court.

Faden added that he found out about the interview after the story aired.

He asked the judge to include in the order that attorneys must be notified if anyone tries to interview Romelus from jail.

The judge recognized this case has received a lot of publicity, especially pre-indictment, and said this order is necessary in order to preserve a fair trial and get fair jurors.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office said Romelus called 911 shortly after pulling into a gas station in Angleton on FM 521 and 288.

When deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said her four children were all found with gunshot wounds.

A 13-year-old boy and 3-year-old girl were found dead.

An 8-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, but would survive their injuries.

Last December, Romelus was indicted by a grand jury on charges on aggravated assault and capital murder related to the alleged attack against her four children.
