HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A Harris County judge denied bail Thursday for the man accused of fatally shooting a Katy couple in their home last month.

Norman Johnson, 42, appeared in court for the first time yesterday in a probable cause hearing. He is accused of shooting and killing Trinette and Christopher Lopez, which authorities believe could be over a child custody dispute.

Records show that the Lopez’s adopted 7-year-old daughter is the biological child of Johnson.

Johnson is from the Austin area, but he was arrested in Williamson County two days after the killings on an outstanding harassment warrant.

Johnson’s next court date is set for Feb. 10 at 11 a.m.
