Aspiring journalist Grace Hu shines at Clements High School

Hu is the fifth recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2026

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

It would not surprise us if Clements High School senior Grace Hu interns with us at KPRC 2 one day. The young journalist is our fifth KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner from the class of 2026. Clements High School in Sugar Land is part of the Fort Bend Independent School District.

Hu serves as editor-in-chief of her school newspaper. She has interned with Community Impact newspapers and completed a journalism-intensive program through the New York Times Summer Academy. She has also interned with the Fort Bend Communications Department and volunteered as a reporter with Special Olympics.

Other activities include serving as president of her school’s chapter of the National Quill and Scroll Honor Society and working on events with the National English Honor Society. Hu was also a nationally ranked badminton player, active from 2018-2023.

In her scholarship nomination essay, Hu told KPRC 2, “Beyond school grounds, I also use journalism to serve the community around me, whether that’s informing the wider school district of different events, giving athletes with disabilities an outlet for their stories, or providing the youth perspective for a county newspaper. These experiences continually push me to grow, while creating the foundation for my future career and passion.”

Hu plans to study journalism in college. Congratulations, Grace!
