Investigation underway after double shooting at southeast Houston apartment complex

A man and woman were both injured in the shooting

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a double shooting in southeast Houston Tuesday morning that left both a man and a woman hospitalized.

Officers were called to and apartment complex on Broadway Street near Bellfort just after 9 p.m. Monday. Investigators say a woman went to the apartment complex earlier in the evening to confront another woman who lives there.

Police say during that confrontation, a man who also lives at the complex was in the parking lot when he saw the woman standing in a doorway. Authorities say he approached her and fired several shots, hitting her multiple times.

A second man later arrived and attempted to help. When officers got to the scene, the alleged shooter was still there and had also suffered a gunshot wound. Investigators have not yet said where that injury came from.

The suspected shooter was taken to a nearby hospital and is listed in stable condition. The woman who was shot remains hospitalized in serious condition.

Residents in the area say they are concerned about safety, with one neighbor telling KPRC 2 the violence has become overwhelming.

Police say the investigation remains active as they continue to determine each person’s role in the incident. It is not yet clear what charges, if any, will be filed.
