Taylor High School senior Rihanna Lawal stays busy with activities and her own small business

Lawal is the fourth recipient of the KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship from the Class of 2026

HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.

Rihanna Lawal is involved in several school activities at Taylor High School and she shines in all of them. KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are proud to recognize her as our fourth Senior Scholarship winner of the year. Taylor High School is part of the Alief Independent School District.

A member of the National Honor Society, the National Technical Honor Society and the National Art Honor Society, Lawal is an academic standout who excels in STEM activities. She participates in UIL math competitions and SkillsUSA, where she has won regional-level silver and bronze medals.

Lawal is a bright light at her school and she told KPRC 2 she spends part of her day trying to make her fellow students happy. She has volunteered with various organizations and has run her own small business baking cake pops, cookies and more for the past three years.

Lawal plans to study Mechanical Engineering at Texas Tech University in the fall.
