HOUSTON – Families and staff in Aldine ISD are expected to attend a community meeting tonight at Teague Middle School as the district continues its ongoing “optimization” process.
The meeting is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will give parents, teachers, and neighbors the opportunity to speak directly with district leaders.
Parents say they are concerned about what could come from the discussion and whether students who attend Teague Middle School could be impacted by potential changes.
While district materials for tonight’s meeting do not specifically mention school closures, Aldine ISD says it is seeking feedback directly from Teague Middle School families.
The district’s optimization process began several years ago and has already resulted in the closure of nine campuses. Aldine ISD has previously told the community the review would be conducted annually, meaning additional schools could be affected in future years.
District officials cite declining student enrollment, falling birth rates, a lack of affordable housing in the area, and decreased state funding as the factors driving the plan.
Aldine ISD says tonight’s meeting is intended to allow community members to share feedback and engage directly with district leadership as the annual optimization process continues.
