Here’s what you need to know:

  • Payments must be postmarked by midnight on Saturday. If a payment is postmarked beyond that date, you will be handed fines and interest. If you are paying by mail, ask the post office for a certificate of mailing so you have proof that you submitted the payment.
  • Tax offices will have extended hours Saturday. All 16 branches and the downtown location will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Taxes become delinquent on Feb. 1, and penalty and interest begin immediately. Additional collection fees of 15% to 20% can be added later if taxes remain unpaid and are sent to a delinquent tax law firm.
  • You can pay your taxes in person, over the phone, or online. You can pay with a credit card, although there will be a transaction fee. You can avoid this fee by paying by e-check.
  • If you are paying with a check, you do not need to wait in line. The officials who check you in can send your check through a drop box and give you a receipt, ensuring the transaction.
