HOUSTON – KPRC 2 and American Furniture Warehouse are surprising 20 deserving high school seniors with $2,500 scholarships in 2026. All students selected for scholarships have been nominated by their high schools.
Congratulations to Evren Meyers, our third KPRC 2-American Furniture Warehouse Senior Scholarship winner of the year. He is a student at Memorial Senior High School which is part of the Spring Branch Independent School District.
Meyers is a varsity soccer player who is also accomplishing big things off the field. He coordinated a book drive benefiting children in Namibia. The drive collected more than 5,500 books, all of which Meyers sorted, packed and made arrangements to ship to Africa. He tells KPRC 2, “I never expected to make a large impact or receive recognition from a Namibian Ambassador. I wanted to help. This experience taught me that change can begin with a small idea and grow through initiative, creativity, and persistence.”
With a plan to study Engineering in college, Meyers is also active in the Robotics, Rocketry and Future Engineers clubs at his school. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and has helped build bikes for those in need through Cycle Houston.
