Family hopes for upgraded charges after man fatally shot in Santa Fe

SANTA FE, Texas – A family is calling for justice after 36-year-old Robert Pentecost was fatally shot on a property in Santa Fe on January 15.

65-year-old Wade Calhoun, was arrested on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge and has since bonded out of jail.

KPRC 2 News reporter Corley Peel spoke with Pentecost’s family who are hoping since the father of three has passed, Calhoun’s charges will be upgraded to murder.

Pentecost’s mother, Tammy Greenshaw, described the devastating moment she learned her son had been shot.

“It felt like somebody stabbed me in the heart,” Greenshaw said.

She recounted the phone call with a nurse who informed her that Pentecost had been shot in the head and was in a coma.

“He had been in an altercation, and he was in a coma. I asked what happened, and she said he was shot in the head. I asked if he was alive, and she said yes, but she didn’t know for how long,” Greenshaw said.

Galveston County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene Thursday night, where Calhoun allegedly shot Pentecost on his property. Crime scene tape was seen wrapped around Calhoun’s home.

According to Broadcastify, a 911 dispatcher said, “The trespasser that was shot in the head is going to be in the vehicle in the driveway. The homeowner is going be inside the home.”

Greenshaw insists her son was not a trespasser. She said he would mow Calhoun’s law and help with work on his property.

“He recently was displaced from his home and was staying in his car. This man told him, ‘You pull your car in my driveway, you’re safe there, you don’t have to worry about the police,’” she said.

Calhoun was arrested on an aggravated assault charge but made his $100,000 bail hours before Greenshaw learned her son had passed away Friday afternoon.

“I think he’s dangerous,” Greenshaw said.

When asked what justice looks like for her, she responded, “He needs to go to prison for life.”

Corley Peel reached out to the Galveston County District Attorney’s office to inquire if Calhoun’s charges would be upgraded to murder. Due to the holiday, no response was available at the time, but KPRC 2 News will follow up.

Greenshaw said her son was an organ donor and Houston Methodist hosted a Celebration Walk after he passed. She expressed gratitude that her son’s organs—including his heart, lungs, and liver—have been donated to recipients in need.
