HOUSTON – Several vehicles in the Highland Village shopping center were damaged after a driver in a stolen vehicle crashed into them at the end of a police chase Thursday.

Houston police say officers tried to pull over the vehicle in the 2700 block of West Loop 610 at 1:22 p.m.

However, the driver refused to stop and led police on a pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver pulled into the Highland Village shopping center off Westheimer Road. The driver slammed into several parked cars in the parking lot before the chase came to an end.

KPRC 2 Meteorologist Brittany Begley was in the shopping center when the chase came to an end. She spoke to several witnesses about what they saw.

“Yeah, I saw this crazy white pickup come through here really fast, and then sideswipe all these cars. I was just a few feet away, and the cops were right behind him ‘cause I could hear the sirens coming, and I wanted to see what was going on,” Joe Pat Clayton told Begley.

Another witness said he saw the truck driving on the wrong side of the road before turning into the shopping center.

“I was approaching a red light, and I heard several police cars behind me, so I pulled over to the left-turn lane. As I did, a white—uh, I think two-door pickup just flew by in the oncoming traffic on the wrong side. He jumped into this parking lot, and I heard a crash and boom, but I didn’t know it was this many cars," said a man who identified himself as Mr. Jackson.
