Elderly man dies in southwest Houston house fire on Willow Lake Drive; HFD contained the blaze in about 20 minutes, and arson investigators are probing the cause. (OnScene, KPRC)
HOUSTON – Firefighters responded to a house fire that claimed the life of an elderly man in southwest Houston on Saturday morning.
The Houston Fire Department were dispatched around 8 a.m. to the 2300 block of Willow Lake Drive. Arriving units said they saw heavy smoke and fire coming from a single-story home.

HFD said it took them around 20 minutes to get control of the fire. During their search, HFD District Chief Robert Ross said they found a deceased elderly man inside.
Arson units are working to determine the cause of the fire.

“While we don’t have all of the details yet, it’s a somber reminder of the importance of having an emergency plan, ensuring your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working, and knowing who to call for an emergency,” HFD said in a social media post.
