Deadly police shooting under investigation at Houston’s Cityscape Apartments

Multiple weapons were found in the vehicle; it remains unclear if the suspect fired at officers

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating a shooting involving officers that left a man dead early Friday morning.

The incident occurred at the Cityscape Apartments near Highway 288 and Almeda Genoa.

Authorities say officers came to the scene around 1:41 a.m. after a woman reported hearing a crash and seeing a man pointing a gun at her outside her apartment.

She went back inside and called 911 for help.

When officers arrived, they found the man inside a Chevy Suburban near the apartment gate and issued verbal commands.

At some point, three officers fired their weapons, hitting the man who was still inside the vehicle.

Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“This is a very sad scene for everyone involved… it’s always a tragic loss when somebody dies,” said Houston Police Sgt. Cantú.

Multiple weapons were found inside the SUV, but police have not confirmed whether the suspect fired at officers or what exactly led to the shooting.

Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu described the situation as “a very sad scene… when somebody dies.”

Police have identified the man only as a man in his 50s. The investigation remains active.

They have not confirmed whether the man lived at the complex, fired a weapon, or knew the woman who called 911.

Authorities have released surveillance footage from a nearby business showing the moments before the shooting, cautioning the public about the graphic content.

The three officers involved each have about two years on the force and have been placed on administrative duty, which is standard following an officer-involved shooting, police said..
